Welcome to The Pilates Workshop!

I decided that I wanted to be a physical therapist after a car wreck when I was 20 years old. I had a shoulder injury and was told by my doctor to never expect to be able to use my arm again fully.

Fast forward a couple of years, and I had full function back in my arm thanks to physical therapy, and I was leaving my graduate program in Statistics to go to Physical Therapy school. While in PT school at the University of Florida, I injured my back while running. I went through traditional physical therapy exercises, though I did not return to my prior level of function.

After I graduated with my Master's of Physical Therapy degree, I moved to Huntsville to work at an outpatient orthopedic clinic. It was there that I discovered Pilates, and realized that I could again be pain free and felt stronger than ever. I became obsessed with how this method was different and why it worked so well to alleviate my pain and symptoms.

I became certified through the Pilates Method Alliance in 2007 and began to integrate Pilates teaching into my physical therapy practice.  I noticed a difference in my patients' outcomes and how much more quickly they returned to the activities that they wanted to do.  I continued to study and earned my Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga in 2010 and opened a Pilates studio that focused on recovery from injury and chronic conditions.

I absolutely loved being able to help people that had been told that they were beyond help! My husband and I made the decision to move to Chattanooga to be close to family after our daughter was born. For the first year that we were here, I took time for more Pilates training and became a Polestar Pilates Rehab Practitioner in 2018. I'm looking forward to partnering with you in your journey to health and wellness!

I hope to see you soon,

Mary
